Aging in Place Downtown

Who We Are

We are a non-profit volunteer agency whose mission is to enable seniors to remain in their own homes throughout their lives, regardless of health or wealth, rather than being displaced to a nursing facility.

What We Do

Aging in Place Downtown has four core activities:

Options Counseling: a comprehensive assessment of individual seniors, addressing needs in twelve areas of daily living - housing, medical, social, mental health, housekeeping, home maintenance and modification, transportation, use of technology, safety in and out of home, nutrition, legal, and financial.  We identify sources of assistance in each of those areas along with potential means of paying for them, and present them to our client.  We help with access to those resources as needed.

Home Base: kiosks in neighborhood locations where seniors can walk in and find information and materials on any area of concern related to aging in place.  Computers and printers are available to access online resources.  A helper is available to assist with identifying relevant information.

Transportation: Door-through-door and arm-through-arm transportation from a senior's home to destinations where necessities (fresh food, prescriptions, housewares, etc.) are available.  Seniors are transported to our hub for coffee and socializing before boarding a van for the destination.  After an opportunity to shop, they are delivered home by our volunteer drivers.

Tuesday Talks: Monthly free talks on topics of interest to seniors and near-seniors held at the main library on the third Tuesday of every month (except July and August) from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.

Participation in Home Base and Tuesday Talks are open to all, without charge.  Options Counseling and Transportation are available to our members.  Our annual membership dues are $6.00/year per household.  Transportation fare is $3.00 round trip.

We always need volunteers in a variety of roles.
