D.C. Virgo Middle School was built in 1964 and was a neighborhood school that carried a legacy of pride through many generations of families living in the north side of downtown Wilmington. In May of 2011, the school was shut down by the county due to budget cuts, under performance, and extremely low enrollment. This year, with the help of some dedicated and committed community advocates and support from the Blue Ribbon Commission, the school was able to reopen in August of 2012 and renamed D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy. The new D.C. Virgo is under the leadership of our principal Eric Irizarry. The school’s goal is to embody the idea of “it takes a village to raise a child”, where multiple members of the community are involved in shaping and molding the future paths of our students. In order to make this philosophy a reality, we are seeking committed organizations and individuals to join with us to build a network of support for our students by donating their time, energy, and unique skills to our school.
